Call for Cover Art Submissions

January 10, 2011

We are seeking cover art for multiple upcoming issues of Four and Twenty. We are particularly interested in images that convey a sense of community. We are also partial to images that tell a story or give a strong sense of place. We accept both illustrations and photographic images.

Artists may submit up to three original images. Please note that landscape-oriented artwork that can be cropped to fit a 7” x 3.5” space works best with our journal’s design.

All submissions must be sent electronically to {submissions at 4and20poetry dot com}. All files should have a minimum quality of 300 dpi. Please submit files in one of the following formats: TIFF, JPEG, PNG, EPS, or PDF. Please do not submit native Photoshop or Illustrator files.

All artwork is subject to the same rights agreement as the poetry we publish (see our submissions page for more information on our rights agreement).

The deadline for the first round of consideration is January 31.

Declaration Editing & Design is accepting submissions for the April 2010 issue of Four and Twenty, our short form poetry journal.

All submissions for the April issue must be received by February 28, 2010.

The guidelines are simple. All poems must be four lines or fewer in length and contain no more than twenty words (hence, Four and Twenty). All submissions are judged on the ability to create a vivid picture, evoke an emotional response, and use creative wordplay. All poetic forms that fit the journal’s guidelines (such as haiku, senryu, sapphic, and tanaga) are welcome, but authors are not limited to these forms. There is no set theme for the journal. A new issue of the journal is released the third Tuesday of each month.

Call for Valentine Verses

January 18, 2010

Four and Twenty enjoyed the Holiday Haiku so much we are calling for submissions of Valentine Verses to post on our website on February 14, 2010.

Poets may submit up to two untitled, Valentine theme, Haiku in the traditional 5/7/5 form. Submissions may be serious or fun.

Since this will be an informal day of poetry, acceptance and rejection letters will not be sent, but on Valentine’s Day, the chosen assortment will be posted. All submissions must be sent electronically by February 5, 2010. Click here to access our online submission form.

We look forward to reviewing your submissions soon!

Four and Twenty is published for a general audience of poetry lovers, so out of deference to our younger readers (and their parents) we ask for no erotica.
